Brand new 750SS a possibility as Ducati put bevel spares back into production

Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali dropped a bombshell in an interview with MCN this week - Ducati are going to put spares for their older bikes back into production, something Suzuki have already done. Or might they even build a few roundcase 750SS, and take advantage of that bike's six figure values? It certainly sounds possible, given that Domenicali mentions car manufactures, and Jaguar are currently building lightweight E-Types to order.

"Ducati Classic will be a plan we will work on to help the customers who own older bikes keep them working correctly" said Claudio Domenicali. "You can look at what some of the car companies like Porsche or Aston Martin do in this regard to see what is possible to factory maintain older vehicles. The used value of our older bikes, whether they are 15 or 25, or  even 50 years old, is very good. We want to help the owners of these bikes keep them running on the road and working as they should"

As I'm allowed access to my pension pot next year (thank you George Osbourne) I can feel the urge for a brand new 175 F3 coming on. And a brand new 450 Desmo. Or maybe a new 750 GT and 916. Can't wait.

  3. Damm you Greg sort your preview button out! It destroyed my first finely crafted reply.
Suffice to say their only interested in History where they can turn a quick buck and they have no tooling for even 90's bikes. They'd be better off doing the usual trick of making some more 'limited' editions. Now how many Desmosedici 's shall we make 1000? Yeah sounds good. Oh hang on we've just sold them all let's add another 500...

    1. I don't control anything here...
But as with Phil's comment I think they look at what folk pay Back to Classics or Made in Italy, and think "we could have a slice of that". We all know that they don't have the old crankcase moulds but if they can sell the 1199SL at £54k, they must love the idea of new 750SS making £100k

  5. change hands - there are already people making parts for old bevels - the parts that sell in reasonable quantities such as pistons, gaskets rod kits, fibreglass body parts - I know I sell them via my work roadandrace .com.au I also hand make small runs of obscure part. what makes anyone think ducati will make big runs of anything that will not sell unless the price is mega expensive like old bmw or Porsche bits.maybe he is thinking of parts for 1990s ducati that come up obsolete when you try to buy from a ducati dealer - bits for those old 916 models???

    1. They don't want the world Phil - just your bit of it. I think they also look at what folk pay Back to Classics or Made in Italy for restos, and think "we could have a slice of that". We all know that they don't have the old crankcase moulds but if they can sell the 1199SL at £54k, they must love the idea of new 750SS making £100k

  7. Sorry Dan - it's only in the paper. But that's the complete comment - everything else was about the Scrambler. In the meantime fingers crossed for Alazzurra fairings so all those TT2 replicas can be put back to stock
